Why did I get this stuff in the first place? o_o
Well one thing I knew for sure was I wanted the Wonder Pore set after watching the a "Get it Beauty Self" video on YouTube.
I felt my pores needed some attention and Etude House's Wonder Pore range seemed just like the thing. Also the video shows how Men can look after their skin too which is a nice change from the 'only girls wear make-up' point of view.
I also knew that to get the most out of a skin routine, I would need a toner, and moisturizer. Before hand I had just been using body lotion on my face (D:>), but after browsing cosmetic. Jolse I came across Sleeping packs and Sun creams. Knowing that the sun was one of the causes of pre-mature wrinkles I thought a sun cream would be a great way to finish a morning skin routine before heading out. As for a Sleeping Pack, the Etude House Play Therapy Sleeping Pack is designed to keep your face moist during the night, and you wash it off in the morning. Being someone who likes to sleep in a WARM bed, my face sometimes feels dry in the morning so a Sleeping Pack seemed to be the ticket. Also needing to wash it off in the morning means I would be already to start my skin routine cycle again! :3
I also wanted to get a weekly mask and after trying the Skin Food Black Sugar serum sample, I liked the overall qualities of the product so I opted for the Skin Food Black sugar face, which after reading many reviews, I would say is a fan favorite. ^^
As for the make-up products I brought, I fell in love with Etude House's Sweet Recipe range. Due to yet Another! Get it Beauty Self video. (Great marketing technique)
While the videos highlight Etude House's Sweet Recipe range, they also use other products to achieve a cute and fresh look. The range of Sweet recipe products are limited on cosmetic.Jolse but from it I got the Baby Choux cream and Dear my Jelly Lips Lipstick. The other make-up products I got were mainly to fill in the gaps such as the salmon dark circle concealer, which is a replacement for my Revlon Photoready brightener because, while it is a nice product, I feel the brightening effect can be a bit over powering at times. So I hope the salmon concealer has a more natural outcome.
While I am aware that with the Get it Beauty Self videos, are somewhat unrealistic using flawless faced celebs, I like the presentation and the fact that they are mini tutorials that highlight a more natural look compered to heavy use of eyeliner or over the top anime eye tutorials. (It's not that I hate the other videos, some are insightful, but more on that another time :P)
Value?
Despite spending nearly $220 New Zealand Dollars, the amount of products you get for that price is GREAT value! This is for two main reasons.
First reason: Any medium to high quality make-up brand will cost you an arm and a leg in New Zealand. For example I brought a bottle of Revlon Photoready Primer for $50 at Farmers. That's one product for 1/4 of what I spent on 17 products.
Second reason: The price of Korean Cosmetics in New Zealand (at a legit store or not) are over priced as well. This may be due to exportation costs, but if a store buys in bulk, they get a discounted price. As seen on other Korean Cosmetic websites that offer wholesale deals.
In relation to the second point, not all major Korean cosmetic brands have official stores in New Zealand. The only official stores I've been to so far have been Missha, The Face Shop and...that's it. There are stores that sell Tony Moly, Etude House and Skinfood but they are not official stores, which is where most of the jacked up prices come from. But this is not all doom and gloom, by having these products in store, you are able to try them out before buying online, which is very important when it comes to picking the right color for you skin tone. While this is useful, I wouldn't condone doing it too often, and would suggest buying something from the stores every once and awhile to support their business. ^^
I will review the Asian cosmetic stores in Auckland city at a later date, but this is a small insight into New Zealand's Asian make-up industry.
Lastly, I would suggest buying products in big bundles (like this haul) to save on shipping costs. I'll review cosmetic.Jolse's website in the future, but many online shopping sites have deals where if you spend a certain amount you can get free shipping.
So unless someone else can convince me I was ripped off, I feel this was great value for money and would happily do so again. :D
So where from here?
Thanks to this haul I now have some material to work with on this blog, so the following post will be reviews on the products above and I'll give a more detailed description on my hopes and expectations for the products. I also plan to do a skin routine trial with the products above with before and after pictures. I also want to discuss buying cosmetic in New Zealand and also make-up tutorial videos as well. Hopefully make some of my own too.
So what do you think of this haul? Is there any products in here that you want or have? Leave your thoughts in the comments!
Thanks for reading, feel free to check out any of my other blogs and I'll see ya soon!
